The exquisite Solar System diorama shows the precise relative orbital speeds of the planets, and the movement of Earth's moon. Historically, such a model only illustrated the most visible planets up to Saturn, as they were developed in the early 18th century.
Our model includes 9 planets, including Pluto, and 28 moons. The Earth-Moon system demonstrates the moon's complex movement around the Earth while the Earth orbits the sun.
Mercury completes 1028 orbits for every one orbit of Pluto. Mercury takes about 4 seconds to orbit, while Pluto takes about 4 hours.
The Sun, 9 planets, and 28 moons are made from beautiful semi-precious stone orbs. Brass planets with stone moons are also available upon request. Operation is by BATTERIES unless otherwise specified in settings.
The mechanism is fully visible beneath the rotating planets, offering a fascinating display of moving solid brass gears.
In fine woodworking, the twelve-sided oak barrel, standing on 12 solid brass feet, elegantly displays the diorama.
